An estimated 2.5 million eligible voters in Cross River State are expected to fulfill their civic duty of voting for any party of their choice in the 2027 election, according to the projection of the leàdership of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC).
The council, which made this disclosure on Saturday during a press briefing at the Earnest Etim Bassey Press Centre, Calabar, claimed that IPAC “has been working with the Independent National Electoral Commission
Speaking on behalf of other political parties, the state chairman of IPAC, Engr. Edet Effiom explained that they were encouraged when they went to the field, only to discover the willingness of people to vote.
He observed that the worst thing that can happen to democracy is apathy and enjoined those who have not registered for their permanent voters’ cards to use the window given by INEC for registration.
His words: “We are asking people who have not registered for the permanent voters’ cards to do so. We are happy to discover that about 2.5 million eligible voters have already registered, and we want Cross River State to be the strongest voting state in the country.”
He commended the state governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, for creating an environment that allows other political parties to contribute to governance, pointing out that the governor has so far played inclusive politics.
