The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has said that the 2027 general election campaigns, due to commence by August, will not affect his ongoing Infrastructural projects in Abuja.
This is coming on the heels of fears that, given the nature of politics in the Minister’s home state of Rivers State, his focus may be shifted from the projects in the FCT.
Wike, who disclosed this on Wednesday after he inspected some of the road projects, said that development efforts in the nation’s capital won’t be slowed down by campaign activities.
He stated that the Infrastructural development embarked on by this administration would be used as a booster as electioneering campaigns commence in August.
He said the FCT Administration (FCTA) will leverage its track record of infrastructural development as its primary campaign platform for the 2027 elections.
According to the Minister, “Campaigning is about showing what you have done. What are you going to tell the people when you have nothing to show? For me, a campaign means presenting your report card. All we have to do is return to the people and say: ‘We made these promises to you, and we have kept them.’ This administration, as far as the FCT is concerned, has shown its report card and will have no problem winning elections.”
On the projects he inspected, including the Full Scope Development of Arterial Road N16 at Gwarampa (Linking Ring Road II to Ring Road III) and the Tungan Madaki–Zuba Road connecting the Abuja–Kaduna Highway, he noted the contractors have assured him of delivering on schedule.
The Minister further expressed satisfaction with the proactive approach demonstrated by major contractors handling FCT projects, particularly highlighting their willingness to commence work without waiting for initial mobilisation funds:
“What gives us satisfaction is that these companies never wait for mobilisation before starting work. They know the government will pay, and we do not take that trust for granted. I am going back to ensure funds are made available so that momentum is sustained, ” Wike stated.
