Former Vice President and the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has accused President Bola Tinubu of planning to make Nigerians forget the hardships caused by the removal of the fuel subsidy as the 2027 election approaches.
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku alleged that the Tinubu government was considering reinstating the fuel subsidy and some relief to expect gratitude at the ballot box.

The former Nigerian leader also claimed that his team has received credible intelligence indicating that the government has entered a state of panic and is preparing to partially reverse its fuel subsidy policy before the next presidential election.
“Tinubu wants Nigerians to forget their pain because an election is near. They will not,” Atiku declared.
Atiku further criticised the administration, saying it has caused suffering for years and is now planning to offer only limited relief just before the election.
“The tactic is clear and cynical: impoverish Nigerians for three and a half years, then, as the 2027 election approaches, hastily restore some relief and expect gratitude at the ballot box,” he stated.
