Seplat Energy Plc has announced that it has successfully ended routine gas flaring across all its onshore operations in Nigeria, describing the achievement as a major milestone in the company’s drive towards environmentally sustainable energy production.
The company said the accomplishment, recorded at the end of 2025, underscores its commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting cleaner energy practices in the country’s oil and gas sector.
The Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of Seplat Energy Plc, Mr. Samson Ezugworie, disclosed this during a media interaction with journalists in Benin City.
Ezugworie described the achievement as significant, not only for Nigeria but also for the global energy industry, noting that the company had successfully eliminated routine gas flaring across both its western and eastern onshore assets.
According to him, “I will make bold to say that in our onshore operations, covering both our western and eastern assets, we achieved the end of routine gas flaring across all our onshore operations as of the end of last year.”
The Seplat executive also said the company had intensified investments in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to support increased domestic availability of cooking gas and help make the product more affordable for consumers.
He explained that the company’s LPG initiative was strengthened with the establishment of an LPG processing plant in Sapele, Delta State, adding that the facility has already commenced operations.
Ezugworie disclosed that the first consignment of LPG cylinders was dispatched from the Sapele plant on April 20, 2026, marking the commencement of commercial operations at the facility.
He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to expanding access to clean cooking energy, stressing that the investment reflects Seplat’s determination to match its promises with concrete actions.
“We are committed to contributing to LPG and cooking gas supply in the country. We already have the plant in Sapele. The plant is not somewhere else but in our area of operation.
“So again, all these are borne out of the fact that we are committed to the things we say. One of our key mantras at Seplat is integrity. One of our core values is integrity, and integrity simply means there should be no gap between what you say and what you do,” he added.
