The national leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has reaffirmed its support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, stating that the party has no presidential candidate of its own.
This was disclosed at Umueze Anam in Anambra West Local Government Area during the inauguration of APGA’s South-East Assistant Publicity Secretary, Chief Ojukwu Obakasi, as the leader of the City Boys Movement in the area.
Speaking shortly after his investiture, Obakasi said the party’s position on the 2027 presidential election is clear.
“Politics is all about interests, and our interest is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. APGA has no presidential candidate, and our candidate for the 2027 general election is President Tinubu,” he said.
Obakasi, who is also a member of APGA’s National Executive Committee (NEC), said the decision to support Tinubu was reached by the party’s leadership.
“I am a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of our party. After our meeting, the party adopted President Tinubu as our preferred presidential candidate. I am not here by accident; I am acting on the directive of the party leadership,” he added.
He argued that politicians in the South-East have often allowed sentiment to influence political decisions, insisting that such an approach has continued to hinder the region’s political relevance.
“Our people are often guided by sentiment in politics, even when the political reality is obvious. We must stop wasting our votes and embrace a pragmatic approach,” he said.
Obakasi urged Ndigbo to support President Tinubu in the 2027 election, saying he was publicly identifying himself as one of the President’s supporters.
Also speaking, the Coordinator of the City Boys Movement in Anambra West Local Government Area, Odipko Ofozoba, described the group as a coalition of like-minded individuals drawn from different political parties across the South-East.
According to him, members of the movement include individuals from the Labour Party in Abia State, APGA in Anambra State and former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State.
“The City Boys Movement is made up of people with shared political ideals. We are working in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and coordinating the movement across the region,” Ofozoba said.
He added that the movement is collaborating with APGA to mobilise support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.
“We are working with APGA to deliver President Tinubu because progressives are working together, and that is the essence of the City Boys Movement,” he said.
