…Stage Solidarity walk in Osogbo
The wife of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola, on Saturday unveiled a 10,000-member women canvassers’ group, Akoni Obinrin, to mobilise grassroots support for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
Mrs Oyetola led the solidarity walk alongside the wife of the APC governorship candidate, Alhaja Sekinat Oyebamiji; the wife of the deputy governorship candidate, Princess Adebukola Adereti; Chairperson of the Federal Character Commission, Hon. Ayo Omidiran; former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Taiwo Oluga, and other party leaders.
The event commenced at Nelson Mandela Freedom Park in Osogbo, with thousands of women marching approximately 4.5 kilometres through MDS, Station Road, Fagbewesa, Ola-Iya and Aregbe before terminating at the Campaign Office in Ogo-Oluwa, Osogbo.
The procession was later joined by Oyebamiji; his running mate, Kayode Adereti; Executive Director of Marine and Operations, Engr. Olalekan Badmus; former Commissioner, Adebayo Adeleke, and other party stalwarts.
Speaking with journalists after the walk, Mrs Oyetola said the Akoni Obinrin initiative was originally established to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, but noted that the group had now been mobilised to deliver grassroots support for the election of AMBO as governor of Osun State.
She expressed confidence in Oyebamiji’s ability to govern the state, describing him as a competent administrator whose experience in both the private and public sectors had adequately prepared him for the task ahead.
Explaining the group’s structure, Mrs Oyetola said, “Akoni Obinrin, which means Brave Women, has coordinators and assistants across the 62 local council development areas in the state. We also have coordinators in all 3,763 polling units, supported by women opinion leaders at the grassroots. With this structure, we have assembled 10,000 canvassers who will work tirelessly for AMBO.”
The former First Lady of Osun State said the group’s primary responsibility would be voter education, particularly enlightening voters on the proper voting procedure to ensure that APC votes are not voided.
“Our canvassers will educate voters on how to cast their votes correctly for the APC so that none of our votes will be wasted,” she said.
Also speaking, Alhaja Sekinat Oyebamiji said the solidarity walk was aimed at encouraging women to participate actively in the forthcoming governorship election by voting for the APC candidate, while sustaining the momentum ahead of President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
In his remarks, Oyebamiji commended the women for the show of solidarity, describing the procession as a “Walk to Win.”
He stressed the critical role women would play in the forthcoming election, urging them to come out in large numbers to vote for the APC.
According to him, an APC victory would restore the state’s lost glory and reposition Osun for sustainable development.
“Voting for the APC is a guarantee that Osun State will regain its lost glory and witness renewed development across all sectors,” Oyebamiji said.
