Adeleke Alleges EFCC Plot To Freeze Osun Govt Accounts Ahead Of Guber Election

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is planning to freeze all bank accounts belonging to the Osun State Government and top government officials ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is planning to freeze all bank accounts belonging to the Osun State Government and top government officials ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

In a statement issued on Tuesday evening in Osogbo by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the Governor said he had received what he described as “Credible reports” indicating that the anti-graft agency had concluded plans to freeze the accounts.

According to the statement, the alleged move would, if carried out, cripple government operations and disrupt the administration’s activities in the days leading up to the governorship poll.

Governor Adeleke described the reported plan as “the height of lawlessness,” insisting that there was no legal basis for such an action against the state government.

He argued that the EFCC lacks the constitutional and legal authority to freeze the accounts of a state government, maintaining that any attempt to do so would amount to an abuse of power.

The governor further alleged that the purported plan was aimed at paralysing the activities of his administration at a critical period before the election.

He therefore called on relevant authorities and Nigerians to take note of what he described as an unfolding development capable of undermining democratic governance in the state.
