In a bold move to fast-track Nigeria’s Open Banking future, the Association of Chief Audit Executives of Banks in Nigeria (ACAEBIN) has wrapped up a high-powered International Training and Study Tour in partnership with Euromoney and the Association of Banks in Singapore (ABS).
Themed “Open Banking 360°: Strategy, Risk and Assurance for a Secure and Connected Financial Ecosystem,” the nine-day programme (15–23 June 2026) took senior Nigerian banking and FinTech executives to the United Kingdom and Singapore for an immersive deep-dive into the world’s most advanced Open Banking markets.
From London to Singapore, participants engaged with global experts and top-tier financial institutions, dissecting everything from API security and data privacy to customer consent management and third-party risk.
The UK sessions laid the strategic groundwork, exploring regulatory governance, operational resilience, and the evolving role of Internal Audit and Compliance in a data-driven era.
Meanwhile, the Singapore leg shifted focus to FinTech collaboration, innovation ecosystems, and cybersecurity in hyper-connected financial environments.
“Open Banking is not a tech project—it’s an ecosystem shift. Success demands seamless coordination between banks, regulators, FinTechs, telcos, and customers, all bound by robust governance and trust. To that end, the programme spotlighted three strategic imperatives for Nigerian institutions: tightening data governance, building secure and standardised APIs, and supercharging ecosystem partnerships through continuous capacity building.”
Vice Chancellor of ACAEBIN Training Academy, Oluwole Esomojumi, underscored the urgency as he said: “As Nigeria embraces data sharing and digital innovation, we must equip our leaders not just with opportunity-spotting skills, but with the governance and assurance frameworks that safeguard customer trust and system stability.”
He praised the tour for giving participants a real-world benchmark to measure Nigeria’s readiness against global best practices.
Echoing that sentiment, ACAEBIN Chairperson, Aina Amah, reaffirmed the Association’s unwavering commitment to bridging the industry’s skills gap through bespoke trainings and workshops.
She said: “Our Academy may be young, but our ambition is clear—to build a resilient, globally competitive financial sector. We call on all stakeholders—banks, FinTechs, and regulators—to rally behind this mission.”
