Chairman of the Interim National Working Committee (INWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, said there is nothing new in the present challenges facing the party.
Turaki at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja on Thursday, recalled that the PDP faced similar challenges under former Kaduna State governor, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi as Caretaker Committee Chairman.
“For us in PDP, we have seen all seasons. We have seen the good times, we have also seen the bad times.
“We have seen days of prosperity, just as we have also seen days of adversity. We have seen successes, and we have seen challenges, and for us, the kind of challenge that the People’s Democratic Party is facing today is not something, unfortunately, that is new to us,” he stated.
The National Chairman added that PDP and its leadership were able to recover the party from the people he called “imposters” because they were united.
“Those who were there and those who were conversant with what happened during that period of serious challenge, will appreciate that what we are now witnessing in our party is even a child’s play,” he said expressed the belief that PDP would overcome its present challenges.
Turaki explained that the essence of the meeting was “to dissect” last week’s court judgement in the case instituted by Senator Adolphus Wabara-led Board of Trustees (BoT), and to take a stand on the way forward.
BoT Secretary, Dr. Mu’Azu Babandiga Aliyu, who spoke on behalf of the board, accused some people he called “fugitive, nomadic politicians” of using PDP for their own selfish.
Aliyu however expressed happiness that they were unable to kill PDP before going to another political party.
“They are the ones now who are suffering more than even what we are going through,” he said, and encouraged PDP members to see what is currently happening in the party as temporal.
“We want people to be alive to see when we succeed. We will not laugh at them, but at least they will also learn some lessons as we go along.
“You might think you are cheating me if you collect bribe to let me down. For you, you think you have made something, but believe me, you will pay both here and in the hereafter,” he added.
