The Bala Wunti Support Organisation (BWSO) has announced plans to institutionalise an annual celebration of the humanitarian and philanthropic contributions of Dr Bala Maijama’a Wunti through the inauguration of a committee for the maiden Bala Wunti Global Impact Day.
The event, billed for August 8 every year, will highlight Dr Wunti’s interventions in education, healthcare, leadership development, agriculture, food security, poverty reduction and the empowerment of women and youths.
Speaking at the inauguration, BWSO Chief Executive Officer, Malam Mukhtar Ahmed Jarmajo, said the initiative would preserve and promote the values of selfless service demonstrated by Dr Wunti while inspiring others to contribute to national development.
According to him, the celebration is expected to attract participation from within and outside Nigeria and become a major platform for recognising humanitarian service.
The seven-member organising committee is headed by Malam Sagir Alkali, with Ladan Salihu Kangere as Secretary.
Accepting the responsibility, Alkali assured that the committee would work diligently to organise a successful and impactful inaugural event.
Among its responsibilities are developing the programme, coordinating partners, planning publicity campaigns and organising activities such as public lectures, medical outreach, community development projects and award presentations.
