As the 2027 general elections gain momentum, the Peter Obi Media Office (POMR) has warned state governors against alleged attempts to manipulate the 2027 general elections, declaring that Nigerians would resist any electoral process that falls short of being free, fair and transparent.

This is as the Media Office accused some governors of engaging in covert efforts to undermine the democratic process rather than presenting their records of performance and achievements to the electorate.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, the spokesperson of POMR, Idris Zekeri Jnr, said Nigerians would not accept electoral manipulation or any attempt to subvert their democratic choices.

The statement cautioned the governors that their alleged efforts to manipulate the electoral process would not change the people’s preference, insisting that the electorate would choose the best candidate available.

“We therefore condemn the increasing desperation of these governors, who, instead of presenting their records of service, performance and achievements, are turning to electoral manipulation and safeguards for rigging,” it said.

POMR maintained that political leadership was a privilege earned through service and should not be used as an instrument for retaining power through deceit, intimidation or interference with the democratic process.

It added that Nigerians had become increasingly determined to reject leaders who had failed to meet their expectations.

Describing the 2027 general elections as a defining moment for the country, the Media Office said Nigerians were resolved to reclaim their country through the power of their votes.

“Let it be known that no degree of rigging, intimidation or political manoeuvring can permanently silence the will of the people,” the statement added.

The media office further declared that the former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, remained the preferred choice of Nigerians, describing him as a leader with the competence, capacity, character, compassion and commitment required to transform the country.

According to the statement, Obi represents the strongest political option capable of lifting Nigeria from its current challenges and restoring its dignity, prosperity and hope.

“The mandate rests with the people. Nigeria must function again, and it will be OK,” POMR declared.
