The Federal Capital Territory ( FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike has said that the members of the Progressive Governors Forum of the APC attacking his Rainbow Coalition are actually being hunted by the ghost of their failed state primaries and the internal problems threatening their personal ambitions.
Wike, who disclosed this during a live appearance on a TVC’s Journalists Hangout on Monday stated that these governors crying foul over his Rainbow Coalition, designed for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu are all fighting to protect their personal ambitions, than for the protection of Tinubu’s interests.
He noted that the Imo State’s governor Hope Uzodinma who is leading the governors to attack him, has ambition to win a senatorial election in 2027 and also is also eyeing the Senate President’s slot.
Wike disclosed that Uzodinma and other governors are launching the onslaught against him, because they fear that those who lost APC primaries in their various states and have joined other parties, as well as the Rainbow Coalition might win election and block the realisation of the governors ambition.
According to him, the allegation that President Tinubu has conceded nine state him, are mere propaganda that hold no water, but an evil machinations concocted to whip sentiment against him and the President.
He said, ” Let me tell you what has happened. APC, in their ongoing party primaries, the governors, in their own wisdom, believe that they should be able now to put senators or House of Reps members who they will dictate to, who will become the next Senate President or the Speaker.
“Now, what they did in convincing Mr. President is to say that, “Look, there are a lot of local variables.
” You know, in our local area, this man cannot go because of this.” And whether you like it or not, Mr. President is not from there, he has to listen to them.
“But the truth of the matter, that is not the issue. That’s why leaders, look at me today, I’m not a governor, but I sat down with my people.
” I said, “Listen, what do we want? We want to have everybody on board. Everybody on board cannot get everything. Whether you are PDP, whether you are APC, you are all members of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu administration.
“You are all members. Therefore, you have this problem, all the people are saying by rotation, this and that.” I sat down, I said, “Listen, you are right. But where we are now, leave this rotation, leave this.
” Let us allow this harmony for everybody to work together for the interest of Mr. President.” If you think you have that capacity to remove everybody, and then put your own, okay, solve the problem!
“Solve the problem! So, because people came to take refuge in a place that even supports Mr. President, you’re angry. If they have gone to the other party, ADC or NDC, would you be happier than, “Oh, that we went to NDC?”
“Now, the truth of the matter, let me tell you what’s going on. Hope Uzodimma, which I’ve always said, and I tell people, maybe to God be the glory, he became a governor by taking 4th position.
“To the glory of God, he became a governor. And that’s how this country… you can’t understand what’s going on. A man who has about 10 to 11 months to leave office, Mr. President will be inaugurated by May 2029, this man’s office will be expiring by January/February 2028.
” Now, he wants to leave his office to run for Senate. Now, what does that mean? He wants to run for Senate President. Now, what he does is to say to his colleagues, “Look oh, let us the governors be the ones that will produce the senators, that will produce members of the House of Reps.”
” And some of these senators, of course, some of them are more experienced, and some of the governors are not experienced, they buy in, thinking that it’s time to have to make them to be powerful, not knowing that he has his own interest, his own agenda to become Senate President.
“Now, what is this now? Now, these other people whom they have removed, whom they have not given tickets, now find an alternative to run.
” The fear now is that if they run and they win, it means that they’re not going to support him to be the Senate President.
“And that, knowing fully well that running under Wike’s support of the PDP, they will not support them, which of course, life or death, I will never support a character of Hope Uzodimma to be the Senate President of Nigeria. Everybody knows that”, he added.
