The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced Musa Shugaba-Abdullahi as its candidate for the 2027 Nasarawa State governorship election.
New Telegraph reports that Shugaba-Abdullahi secured the nomination during the party’s substitution primary held Tuesday in Lafia, the state capital.
The primary, conducted through affirmation and overseen by the NDC Electoral Committee with supervision from officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was led by Dr Peter Onigah, the NDC National Treasurer and electoral committee chairman.
Following his selection, Shugaba-Abdullahi outlined a five-point campaign agenda focusing on education, healthcare, infrastructure, empowerment, and security.

He pledged to make education free and compulsory for children aged three to 19, aiming to reduce illiteracy and social vices linked to lack of education.
He also promised government support for young adults aged 19 to 25 pursuing NCE, OND, vocational, and medical courses, with tuition subsidies while parents would cover feeding costs.
On healthcare, he said his administration would prioritise making Nasarawa a medical hub in Nigeria, reducing the need for residents to seek treatment abroad.
In infrastructure, Shugaba-Abdullahi emphasised addressing community-specific needs rather than undertaking projects that do not align with local priorities. Although he acknowledged the limited role of state governments in security matters, he committed to collaborating with the Federal Government to enhance safety and combat criminal activities.
The NDC State Chairman, Hon. Dogo Shammah, explained that the primary was necessary because some constituencies lacked aspirants during the May 2026 party elections, leading to the use of placeholders. Shammah stated that the party plans to contest strongly in the 2027 elections and urged party officials and supporters to mobilize support.
The exercise also produced five candidates for the Nasarawa State House of Assembly: Iliya Emmanuel Ayas for Kokona West, Lucy Kigbu-Anzaku for Keffi East, Mohammed Ramalan for Keffi West, Micha Mamman for Obi 1, and Hussaini Mustapha-Ganuwa for Toto/Gadabuke constituency.
