Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), on Friday, pledged that if elected president, his government will prioritise refining crude oil within Nigeria to reduce costs for consumers.
The former Nigerian leader, who made this remark on his verified X handle, explained that Nigerians would benefit from lower fuel prices because domestic refineries would handle crude oil processing locally.

Atiku likened the initiative to supporting local shoemakers in Aba rather than importing shoes, suggesting that similar support for local refineries could make fuel more affordable.
He emphasised that his broader goal extends beyond just fuel prices, aiming to lower transportation costs for goods and reduce expenses for small business owners like traders, barbers, tailors, and welders.
“My promise is personal: I want you to feel relief in your pocket, in your home, and in your daily life,” Abubakar stated.
“I will make life affordable again. I will make Nigeria affordable again. It is a promise.”
