The management of Wikki Tourist Football Club of Bauchi State has appointed a new Security Coordinator, Musa Musari as part of measures to strengthen security before, during and after the club’s matches.
The Sole Administrator of the club, Alhaji Haruna Bako, disclosed this on Sunday when he paid a familiarisation visit to members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Bauchi State chapter, at the NUJ Secretariat in Bauchi.
Bako said the appointment became necessary following recurring crises among supporters’ groups and incidents involving unruly supporters during matches, particularly in the previous season.
He said such incidents contributed to disciplinary sanctions and fines against the club, while the team’s poor performance eventually resulted in its relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) to the Nigeria National League (NNL).
According to him, the newly appointed Security Coordinator, Musa Musari is a former footballer and retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) with considerable experience in security management.
Bako expressed confidence that the appointment would help address the security challenges confronting the club and create a safer environment for players, officials, supporters and journalists during matches.
He also appealed to SWAN members to support the new management in its efforts to reposition Wikki Tourist and secure promotion back to the NPFL.
Bako said, “My success is your success. A professional has been appointed as the new Sole Administrator of the team, and you are equally professionals in the dissemination of information and in projecting the image of the club. Therefore, I need your maximum support and cooperation towards achieving the task ahead.”
The Sole Administrator also announced three other appointments, including that of the Bauchi State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Umar Sa’idu, who will support the management in running the club.
In his remarks, the SWAN Chairman in Bauchi State, Bala Bawaji, congratulated Bako on his appointment and expressed satisfaction with the visit.
Bawaji assured the management of SWAN’s readiness to collaborate with the club and provide comprehensive coverage of its activities and matches.
He also appealed to the Sole Administrator to sustain the welfare arrangements enjoyed by SWAN members during home and away matches.
Other contributors, including the NUJ State Secretary, Isa Garba Gadau, Managing Director of Albarka, Dauda Chroma, and BRC Sports Correspondent, Imran Galaje, called for stronger collaboration between the club’s management and SWAN.
They urged the management to learn from past mistakes and work towards ensuring a successful campaign in the NNL ahead of the new season.
