The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has challenged the people of Evo Kingdom to identify tangible development or political empowerment brought to the area by the former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, during his 24 years as Speaker, Governor and Minister.
Wike, a two-term governor of Rivers, made this remark on Friday during an interactive session with leaders and stakeholders of Evo Kingdom in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.
Speaking on the development in the area, the Minister said his political philosophy focused on developing people’s capacity, giving thanks to God, and uplifting his community.
He contrasted this approach with what he described as the tendency of some past leaders to undermine others and monopolise power.
Wike questioned the legacy of leaders who, he said, had spent years in senior office without leaving a lasting record of leadership or infrastructure in the area.

He also warned against what he called selfish politics, arguing that it would not endure beyond a leader’s lifetime.
“How will I answer before God if these people took that kind of risk, and an opportunity came for you to help and uplift them? But because of your greed and selfishness, you don’t want anybody to reach your level,” Wike said.
He added: “You don’t want anybody in Obio-Akpor to become governor again because you have been governor. God will not be happy with me.”
Referring to Amaechi’s time in office, Wike challenged the kingdom to name projects or other benefits secured for the area during his tenure.
“Someone was Speaker of the House of Assembly for eight years, governor for eight years and minister for eight years—that is 24 years in top leadership positions.
“What can anybody point to that he attracted to Evo Kingdom or Rivers State in all those 24 years? Nothing. Not one single thing,” he said.
Wike said he could identify projects he brought to Rivers State while serving as Minister of State for Education.
He questioned how someone who had held senior office for 24 years without, in his view, empowering local residents or developing new leaders could claim to love them.
