Spain were crowned 2026 FIFA World Cup champions after defeating defending champions Argentina 1-0 after extra time in a final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Sunday.
The victory secured Spain’s second FIFA World Cup title and their first since winning the tournament in South Africa in 2010, ending Argentina’s hopes of successfully defending the trophy.
The decisive moment came in the 106th minute of extra time when Ferran Torres headed home after connecting with a cross from Nico Williams, giving Spain the breakthrough after a fiercely contested encounter.

Spain dominated possession for much of the match and created the better scoring opportunities, but Argentina’s resilient defence forced the game into extra time before Torres finally found the winner.
Following the final whistle, United States President, Donald Trump joined FIFA President, Gianni Infantino on the pitch for the trophy presentation ceremony, where Spain captain Álvaro Morata lifted the FIFA World Cup trophy amid jubilant celebrations.
The trophy presentation marked the conclusion of the month-long 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, with Spain emerging as the new world champions after an impressive tournament campaign.
